House Dragon FAQ
Q: Do house dragons make good pets?
A: It's better not to think of them as pets. Tiny and mouselike though they are, they won't be fond of anyone who forces them to live in a cage. They'll balk if you try to teach them to sit or roll over. They'll turn their nose up at hamster food and chew sticks. They're intelligent, well-spoken creatures, and they often know magic. They don't want to be treated like inferiors any more than you or I do. However, if you want a unique and colorful little friend, a house dragon just may be the perfect companion for you.
Q: What should I feed my dragon?
A: They'll eat just about anything people will eat. House dragons are very resourceful about getting food for themselves, too. You could say that scavenging is in their nature. However, not all house dragons will eat what's best for them. They may dive straight for the chocolate instead! Encourage them to eat fruits and vegetables, and try to avoid leaving candy and cookies out in the open.
Q: What do house dragons like to drink?
Soda, juices, chocolate milk-- each dragon has his own preference, but in general they seem to like just about anything. Water is best for them, though.
Q: Can house dragons breathe fire?
A: Technically, yes. But it's more like tiny fire-hiccups. I suppose it's enough that you could persuade them to light a candle for you every now and then.
Q: I have a problem with bugs coming into the house. Are house dragons good for pest control?
A: I'd hire a professional to take care of any bug problems. While I've known some house dragons to occasionally stalk and squish small insects, not all of them are this bold. In fact, many of them are scared of bugs! I have known them to flee in terror from big hairy spiders and giant cockroaches. But wouldn't you do the same if you were only two inches tall?
Q: Do they bite?
House dragons know it's bad manners to bite the hand that feeds you, and they will only bite in self-defense. As long as you don't hurt your dragons or treat them roughly, there's no need to be afraid of their sharp, prominent fangs.
Q: Do house dragons get fleas?
I've been told most emphatically by one of my house dragons that unlike mice and other rodents, they do not get fleas. Since I haven't noticed any flea problems, it's probably true.
